About and privacy
What Fihris is
Fihris searches a reviewed set of bookstore websites serving Jordan in one step, in Arabic and English, and links to each store's own page for the book. It does not sell books, take orders or compare prices, and no store endorses it.
How a search works
When you search, the Fihris server sends your search words to each bookstore it searches and shows what each one answers, as it answered. The stores get the words from our server, not from your device. Which bookstores, and why
The answers stay in the server's memory for at most 6 minutes, so the same search soon after does not ask the stores again.
Fihris never writes your search words to disk or to logs. Its log keeps, for each search, only how long it took and how many stores answered, for up to 7 days.
Your search is part of the page address (?q=…) so that you can share it; your browser keeps it in its history like any address.
What data goes where
- Covers: your browser loads book covers directly from the stores or the image services they use, and from Open Library by the book's ISBN when a store has no cover. Those sites see your internet address and which images you load, as any website would.
- Store links: opening an offer takes you to the store's site, where its own privacy policy applies. The link does not tell the store what you searched for.
- One cookie: a random, anonymous identifier that lets the server apply its fair-use limit (30 searches a minute). It holds nothing about you, is sent only with searches, expires after 24 hours, and stops working when the server restarts. Fihris sets no other cookies.
- Your internet address: the server uses it to apply limits per address. Fihris keeps it only in the server's memory, never writes it to disk or to logs, and forgets it when the server restarts or needs the room.
- Fihris runs behind Cloudflare, which protects the site: every request passes through it, so Cloudflare sees your internet address and the pages you open, including your searches, and may set its own security cookies. The company that hosts the Fihris server carries the same traffic. Their own privacy policies apply.
- Security reports: when your browser blocks something on a Fihris page that should not be there, it reports this to Fihris. Fihris keeps only which rule blocked it and where it came from, for up to 7 days, never the page address or your search words.
- No accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking.
Corrections and removal
If you run a bookstore and want it left out of Fihris, or something here is wrong (a store's name, its status or one of its listings), contact us: contact@fihris.page
A store that asks to be left out is no longer searched, and the Bookstores page then says it was excluded at its request.
